Patient’s perception of informed consent in the field of assisted human reproduction

In assisted human reproduction (AHR), informed consent (IC) has a dilemma between hiding some risks to reassure the couple or giving complete information, which is essential for any valid IC. Four questions about IQ were asked to 234 couples undergoing RHA. The survey detected various deficiencies: absence of IC letter in 16% of couples; 25% of them were not warned of possible ovarian hyperstimulation or multiple pregnancy, and 40% were not informed of the possible increase in congenital disease. The present study detected these deficiencies; but more significant, the study analyzes the importance of carrying out a comprehensive CI, which must include, among other aspects, patient education in complex techniques, as well as complete risk information.
