A new bioethics teaching method: Experience in using the portafolio whit medical students in Brazil
Abstract
New curricular opportunities for bioethical education in medical school should involve every area and aspect of the student’s academic and practical training, rather than being limited to classroom lectures. The portfolio system in bioethics is a simple learning and evaluation method that provides an opportunity to discuss the ethical dilemmas students face in everyday medical practice and can be applied throughout their professional training. Examples from a pilot experience are used to show how students manage to grasp the ethical issues involved in clinical practice and to reflect on them, with the help of clinical tutors.
