¿Es la muerte cerebral realmente la muerte del individuo? Análisis de una compleja situación clínico-bioética y de sus consecuencias
Abstract
This work is a critical examination of the current concepts nurtured in relation to brain death as a criterion in both intensive therapy and the procurement of organs for transplants. The study has brought out the evidence of ambiguity and incoherence elements in modern concepts; it shows the weaknesses and internal contradictions of the models proposed, and points out the need of revaluating the brain death condition by keeping in mind the most serious consequences of these concepts in the field of clinical practice and society. The work carried out offers a viable ethical alternative leading to overcome this repertoire of difficulties.
