Fundamentación y pragmatismo de la bioética. ¿Realmente se justifica como otra disciplina?
Abstract
Thoughts relating required teaching, study and practice of bioethics fundamentals among students and professionals of health care disciplines are exposed in this article.
Science and technology developments pose a theoretical potential of great benefit to mankind, only that malpractice may lead to unexpected, catastrophic outcomes. In view of so accelerated science and technology developments, which too many times do not allow for appraisal of side effects of such progress, an ethical scrutiny is necessary.
Knowledge of medical ethics in particular and bioethics in general, implying practice on human beings, should be a result of formal study and serious consideration.
We shall bear in mind that environment and species preservation entails danger and extinction of mankind, which means restoring, saving, caring, struggling and preserving ourselves.
Hence, bioethics is most probably called to become the conscience of science and, why not, the conscience of this new millennium civilization.
