Old people: from wise to beggar

Abstract

The 20th century, seen form the point of view of human history, has been a particularly extreme century in many things. Never before was there such a big population, such many people killed in war, not even so many communities with such a high decrease in the number of births or whit such a high life expectancy. Years ago, an 80 year-old man appeared to be reaching eternal life, but now it is not rare to reach that age. However, old people have stopped being important elements for society and as a result, they suffer from solitude, neglection, and despair. In view of such situation, the author proposes to assess old-age as part of life and grant it the respect and care which determine the acceptance of old people as a person
