Education in bioethics: An alternative to doctor-patient relationship

Abstract

The new social-cultural contexts urge for a doctor-patient relationship in which the criteria for efficiency and coverage are more important than those of quality and understanding. In view of these demands, doctors must recover their humanistic formation and Bioethics offers an alternative for considering the doctor´s chores, specially, if they are associated whit analysis of controversial situations through the Ethic Committee.

Pablo Arango Restrepo, Universidad de La Sabana

Médico Cirujano, especializado en Cirugía Ortopédica. Candidato a la Maestría en Bioética. Pertenece a la Sociedad Colombiana y Española de Cirugía Ortopédica y Traumatología. Fue miembro del Comité de Historias Clínicas del Hospital de la Samaritana; Instructor adjunto de Ortopedia en la Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. Consultor de Ortopedia en la Clínica Palermo. Decano de la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de La Sabana. Desde diciembre de 1.995 es el actual Vicerrector Académico de La Universidad de La Sabana, Director de la Maestría y la Especialización en Bioética de la Universidad de La Sabana; preside el Comité de Ética y Bioética de la misma institución, Miembro de la Asociación Internacional de Bioética. Miembro de la Asociación Internacional de Bioética Personalista con Sede en Santiago de Compostela, España. Pertenece a la Red Alfa de Investigación en Bioética liderada por la Universidad Lliure de Cataluya. Ha Escrito varias publicaciones ente las cuales se encuentra: "Fracturas Abiertas", "Experiencia en el manejo del trauma raquimedular" en el Hospital de la Samaritana. Miembro del Consejo Editorial y Director de la Revista Persona y Bioética. En la actualidad escribe el libro "Valores y Perfil del Educador", e investiga sobre Aspectos éticos en Cirugía, y, la Relación Médico-Paciente.
