Abstract

Every day it is more frequent to find reports on studies which use fetal tissue transplants to treat some illnesses of nervous origin incurable up to now. Without questioning all the advantages that transplants represent for the scientific advancement, Doctor Seranni wants to draw attention to the criterion used to determine death of fetuses between 8 a 10 weeks old, showing the risk of practicing vivisection directly on them banalizing the inviolable character of human life.

Author Biography

Alejandro Serani Merlo, Universidad de los Andes

Médico Cirujano, por la Universidad de Chile, 1979. Especialista en Neurología clínica, 1994. Doctor en Filosofía por la Universidad de Toulouse ´Le Mirail’, ha cursado Estudios de Filosofía y Teología en el Centre Indépendant de Recherche Philosophique de Tolouse, Francia, desde 1982 hasta 1986.

Actual Profesor Facultad de Medicina & Instituto de Filosofía Universidad de los Andes, Santiago de Chile. Fue Profesor adjunto Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, ejerciendo funciones en el Centro de Bioética de la  Facultad de Medicina y en el Grupo de Reproducción Humana del Departamento de Obstetricia y Ginecología de la Escuela de Medicina en esa misma Facultad. Investigador Neurofisiológico en la Facultad de Ciencias Biológicas de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 1979 hasta 1982. Miembro fundador del Centro de Bioética de la Facultad de Medicina de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile 1987. Miembro corresponsal Academia Pontificia Academia por la vida 1996. Corresponsable del Programa de Métodos Naturales de Regulación de la Fertilidad, Departamento de Obstetricia y Ginecología, Facultad de Medicina, Pontifica Universidad Católica de Chile. Ha realizado publicaciones en el campo de la neurofisiología, neuropsiquiatría, biofilosofía y bioética. Coautor del libro “Problemas Contemporáneos en Bioética”, 1990 y Ética Clínica: Fundamentos y aplicaciones, 1994.
